DOJ Charges Iranian National in Plot to Assassinate Trump and Iranian Dissidents
Nov 8, 2024, 06:04 PM
The US Justice Department has unsealed criminal charges against three individuals involved in an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump and several Iranian dissidents before the recent presidential election. According to charges filed in New York, 51-year-old Iranian national Farhad Shakiri was instructed by an official in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to surveil and ultimately kill Trump during his reelection campaign. The FBI thwarted the plan, which was motivated by vengeance for Trump's killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. The plot included plans to carry out the assassination on October 7th, the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.
