Republican Dave McCormick Defeats Incumbent Bob Casey Jr., Flips Pennsylvania Senate Seat to GOP
Nov 7, 2024, 09:16 PM
Republican Dave McCormick has been declared the winner of the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race, unseating three-term Democratic incumbent Bob Casey Jr. After a closely contested election with initial results too close to call, McCormick's lead grew as outstanding votes were counted, including ballots from the heavily Republican Cambria County. With 98% of votes reported, McCormick led by approximately 30,000 votes, a margin of 0.4%, just under the 0.5% threshold that triggers an automatic recount under Pennsylvania law. On November 7th at 4:09 p.m. EST, the Associated Press projected McCormick's victory. McCormick's campaign had earlier declared victory, stating there was no mathematical path for Casey to overcome the lead. Despite the projection, Bob Casey's campaign has not conceded, noting tens of thousands of ballots remain uncounted and expressing confidence in ultimately winning once all votes are tallied. McCormick, a former CEO of the world's largest hedge fund, has flipped the Senate seat to Republican, contributing to the GOP's growing majority of 53 seats in the Senate.
