Bluesky Surpasses 20M Users Amid X Exodus; EU Flags Regulatory Breach
Nov 25, 2024, 12:07 PM
Following the recent U.S. presidential election where Donald Trump was elected, social media platform Bluesky has experienced a significant surge in user growth as many users migrate from X (formerly Twitter). Bluesky has been gaining up to one million users per day, with its user base doubling to 21 million in the past two weeks, reflecting a 300% growth since November 5 in the U.S. and U.K. The platform is attracting users dissatisfied with Elon Musk's leadership of X, particularly among those who perceive the platform as becoming more right-leaning. "People are tired of having the algorithm decide everything," said Rose Wang, Bluesky's Chief Operating Officer. However, the European Commission has raised concerns, stating that Bluesky is violating EU regulations by failing to disclose important information, including user numbers, and has called for scrutiny across member states.
