Prosecutors: Diddy Paid Inmates to Obstruct Justice Ahead of Trial
Nov 16, 2024, 06:00 PM
Federal prosecutors have accused music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs of attempting to obstruct justice from jail ahead of his upcoming federal racketeering and sex trafficking trial. In court filings submitted late Friday, prosecutors allege that Combs has tried to reach out to prospective witnesses and influence public opinion by contacting family members to create 'narratives' to sway potential jurors. They claim that Combs has been using other inmates' phone privileges at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to make unauthorized calls, and has paid at least eight inmates to use their phone accounts. Prosecutors also allege that Combs arranged three-way calls and violated jail rules by contacting potential victims and witnesses. Additionally, they claim that Combs orchestrated a birthday video involving his seven children as part of a public relations campaign to influence the jury pool. Prosecutors oppose Combs's latest $50 million bail proposal, arguing that he poses serious risks of danger and obstruction. A bail hearing is scheduled for November 27.
