U.S. Senate Panel Expands Probe into BMW's Use of Banned Chinese Parts Linked to Uyghur Labor
Jun 11, 2024, 02:16 AM
The U.S. Senate Finance Committee has expanded its probe into BMW's use of electronic components from a banned Chinese supplier. The investigation, led by Senator Ron Wyden, follows a two-year staff inquiry that revealed BMW imported at least 8,000 Mini Cooper vehicles into the U.S. with parts from the supplier, which is banned under a 2021 law. The supplier is allegedly linked to forced labor practices involving Uyghurs in China's Xinjiang region. BMW continues to import products with components from the banned supplier. On Monday, the Senate panel announced the expansion of the probe.
