Supreme Court Rejects SIT Probe into Electoral Bonds Scheme Under Article 32
Aug 2, 2024, 09:25 AM
The Supreme Court of India has rejected petitions demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged misuse of the Electoral Bonds scheme for political financing. The court ruled that it would be premature and inappropriate to intervene at this stage under Article 32, as the pleas were asking for a roving inquiry. The petitions alleged instances of quid pro quo arrangements between corporates and political parties through donations made via Electoral Bonds. The court emphasized that it cannot order an investigation based on assumptions of quid pro quo for contracts.
