NASA Selects SpaceX's Falcon Heavy to Launch Dragonfly Drone Mission to Saturn's Moon Titan in 2028
Nov 25, 2024, 09:49 PM
NASA has awarded SpaceX a $256.6 million contract to launch the Dragonfly mission to Saturn’s moon Titan in July 2028 from Kennedy Space Center using the Falcon Heavy rocket. Dragonfly is a car-sized rotorcraft lander, part of NASA’s New Frontiers Program, designed to explore Titan's diverse environments. Equipped with eight rotors that allow it to fly like a large drone, Dragonfly will examine dozens of promising locations on Titan to study the moon's chemistry, habitability, and advance the search for signs of life. Titan, the second-largest moon in the solar system with a dense, nitrogen-rich atmosphere, presents a compelling destination for astrobiological studies.
