OpenAI has launched a new feature allowing U.S. users to access its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, through a voice conversation by dialing 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478). This service, which does not require an app download, is limited to 15 minutes per user per month and operates through Advanced Voice Mode. The initiative aims to make artificial intelligence more accessible, reflecting OpenAI's mission to benefit all of humanity with artificial general intelligence. However, the company faces challenges, including a lack of compute capacity, which is evident from the time limitation imposed on the service. Additionally, OpenAI's ongoing project, code-named Orion, aimed at developing the next major model, GPT-5, is facing delays and has not yet met expectations, highlighting the broader industry's struggle with the high costs and computational demands of advancing AI technology. Users can also access ChatGPT globally via WhatsApp integration using the same phone number.
