Elon Musk Rents $2K/Day Banyan Cottage at Mar-a-Lago During Trump Transition
Dec 31, 2024, 05:40 AM
Elon Musk, the world's richest man and a key donor to President-elect Donald Trump, has been staying at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's private Florida estate, since Election Day. Musk is reportedly renting the Banyan cottage, located a few hundred feet from Trump's main residence, for $2,000 per night. This arrangement provides Musk with close proximity to Trump, allowing him to participate in policy discussions, personnel meetings, and informal gatherings during the presidential transition. Musk's involvement has extended to vetting senior administration candidates, engaging in phone calls with foreign leaders, and contributing $250 million to Trump's campaign. Trump, in a Truth Social post, referred to Musk's presence at Mar-a-Lago, highlighting their close relationship. Vice President-elect JD Vance has also stayed at the estate during the transition. While it remains unclear whether Musk is paying the standard rate for his stay, Trump has reportedly boasted about Musk renting the cottage. Musk's proximity to Trump is expected to diminish once the president-elect moves to the White House in January, where stricter security protocols will be in place.
