UK Government to Criminalize Drink Spiking, Train 10,000 Bar Staff
Nov 25, 2024, 07:09 AM
The UK government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has announced plans to make drink spiking a specific criminal offence. This initiative is part of a broader effort to tackle violence against women and girls. As part of the measures, thousands of bar staff and hospitality workers in England and Wales will receive training to spot and prevent incidents of drink spiking. The government aims to halve violence against women and girls with these new measures. Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips emphasized the importance of making sure women and girls feel safe at night. The initiative also includes coordination with police chiefs, hospitality bosses, and transport leaders in Downing St to ensure comprehensive action against spiking. Perpetrators will feel the full force of the law.
