Astronomers Discover 6,000-Year-Old Total Eclipse Reference in Rig Veda

Astronomers have discovered the oldest known reference to a total solar eclipse in the Rig Veda, an ancient Hindu text. The reference, dated to around 4200 B.C. or 3811 B.C., describes the sun being 'pierced' by darkness. This discovery, which is approximately 6,000 years old, predates the previous oldest known eclipse record. The findings also included a 16-foot-long sloping shadow clock and a series of stone blocks embedded in a circular hallway.
