Record 647 Migrants Cross Channel Yesterday as UK Steps Up Deportations
Oct 19, 2024, 12:06 PM
A record number of migrants crossed the English Channel on Friday, with over 600 individuals arriving in the UK in small boats. Home Office figures indicated that 647 migrants in 10 boats were brought to Dover yesterday, including 48 migrants in a single boat. This year has been particularly deadly for migrants crossing the Channel, with 52 fatalities reported so far. In response to the increased migration, the UK has deported a record number of Nigerians and Ghanaians on a single flight, as part of Labour's immigration crackdown, which has seen 3,600 deportations since July.
