U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, Who Prosecuted Diddy and Menendez, Resigns; Edward Kim to Be Acting U.S. Attorney
Nov 25, 2024, 06:11 PM
Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced he will resign from his position effective 11:59 PM on December 13, 2024, ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. Williams, who oversaw high-profile cases including the convictions of Senator Robert Menendez, Ghislaine Maxwell, Sam Bankman-Fried, and prosecuted the RICO case involving Sean "Diddy" Combs on sex trafficking charges, will be succeeded on an acting basis by Deputy U.S. Attorney Edward Y. Kim. Williams had hinted at the possibility of more major arrests before his resignation. President-elect Trump has nominated former Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Jay Clayton to assume the role permanently. Williams expressed confidence in the office, stating it is functioning at an incredibly high level with excellence, integrity, and independence.
