Hanoi Tops Pollution Charts with PM2.5 at 266 µg/m³, Vietnam's Deputy PM Pushes for EVs
Jan 3, 2025, 06:52 AM
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, has been identified as the world's most polluted city, with hazardous PM2.5 levels reaching 266 micrograms per cubic meter early on Friday, according to AirVisual. The severe air pollution, attributed to heavy traffic, trash burning, and industrial activities, has led to health concerns among residents, with both the elderly and young reporting respiratory issues. In response, Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has called for an accelerated transition to electric vehicles (EVs) to combat the pollution. Hanoi aims to have at least 50% of buses and 100% of taxis as EVs by 2030.
