Telegram Founder Pavel Durov Arrested at Le Bourget Airport, Faces 20 Years
Aug 24, 2024, 10:02 PM
Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, was arrested in France at Le Bourget airport near Paris on Saturday evening. Durov, a Russian-French national, was detained upon arrival from Azerbaijan on his private jet. The arrest was based on a French warrant, with charges including terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, and child abuse content. French authorities allege that Telegram's lack of moderation and cooperation with law enforcement make it complicit in these crimes. Durov was reportedly on a federal watchlist and is under investigation by France's OFMI (National Office of the Judicial Police). He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
