Trump Reportedly Urges Putin Not to Escalate Ukraine War; Kremlin Denies Call
Nov 11, 2024, 05:11 AM
President-elect Donald Trump reportedly spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday from his resort in Florida, advising him not to escalate the war in Ukraine, according to a report by The Washington Post. During the call, which was not conducted with the support of the State Department or U.S. government interpreters, Trump is said to have reminded Putin of Washington's sizable military presence in Europe and expressed interest in a follow-up conversation to discuss the peace process. The conversation reportedly included a brief discussion on territory and marked the first between the two leaders since Trump's election victory. Prior to speaking with Putin, Trump had a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, affirming his support for Kyiv. However, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry stated they were not informed in advance about the call with Putin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied that such a call took place, labeling the reports as 'pure fiction' and 'false information.'
