Finland-Sweden Internet Cable Damage Leaves 6,000 Without Service; Authorities Deny Sabotage
Dec 3, 2024, 08:06 AM
An internet cable connecting Finland and Sweden was found damaged in two locations on land in Finland on December 3, 2024. The Finnish cable company Global Connect announced that its services were disrupted due to the cable breaks, significantly reducing internet capacity between the two countries and leaving approximately 6,000 households without communications. While initial reports suggested that Finnish police were investigating the incident as possible sabotage, authorities later denied this, stating that the cables may have been accidentally severed during digging activities. Swedish authorities were informed and are monitoring the situation.
