Bolivian Coup Leader General Zúñiga Arrested by Special Police on Terrorism Charges
Jun 26, 2024, 11:05 PM
Bolivian President Luis Arce announced that the leader of the coup d'état in La Paz, General Juan José Zúñiga, has been arrested by his own troops after they realized his intentions to overthrow the government. The coup attempt appears to have failed as military units began withdrawing from around the presidential palace, including Plaza Murillo. Zúñiga was seen leaving the area in an armored vehicle before being detained. The Bolivian prosecutor's office has launched a criminal investigation against Zúñiga, who has been charged with terrorism and inciting a rebellion. He was arrested live on television by Special Police while being interviewed by the media.
