The IFCN stated that Zuckerberg's assertion is 'false' and aims to correct the record for both current context and historical accuracy. Zuckerberg announced the termination of Meta's fact-checking program in the United States, citing 'too many mistakes and too much censorship.' The IFCN warned that ending the program, which operates in over 100 countries and involves fact-checking in 26 languages by around 80 organizations, could have severe consequences, particularly in nations vulnerable to misinformation that could lead to political instability, election interference, mob violence, and even genocide.
