Ukraine to Re-establish Diplomatic Ties with Syria, Support Stabilization with Grain from Ukraine Program
Jan 2, 2025, 12:12 PM
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is preparing to re-establish diplomatic relations with Syria, following the fall of Russia's ally Bashar al-Assad last month. Zelenskyy stated that this move is part of Ukraine's effort to add more countries to its list of reliable partners. Additionally, Ukraine aims to support efforts to stabilize Syria through the 'Grain from Ukraine' program, which involves sending agricultural aid. On December 31, Ukraine dispatched over 20 trucks carrying 500 tons of flour to be distributed to Syrian families for free. Zelenskyy also mentioned that Ukraine will enhance cooperation with Syria in international organizations and has engaged with European and American partners to ensure maximum support for these initiatives. The Ukrainian President received reports from the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Agrarian Policy regarding their visit to Syria, discussing the outcomes of negotiations in Damascus and security and economic prospects.
