Japan has issued a tsunami advisory for the Izu and Ogasawara islands following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake. The earthquake struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima at 8:14 a.m., according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the earthquake's magnitude as 5.6. Waves of up to 1 meter are expected to reach the affected areas soon, prompting local weather authorities to issue the advisory. Small tsunamis have already been observed in the Izu Islands. The affected islands are located south of Tokyo.
