Tropicana Las Vegas Imploded After 67 Years to Make Way for Athletics Ballpark
Oct 9, 2024, 04:57 AM
The iconic Tropicana hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip was imploded early Wednesday morning at 2:30 a.m., marking the end of its nearly 67-year history. The Tropicana, which opened in 1957 and was known as the 'Tiffany of the Strip,' was demolished to make way for a new $1.5 billion ballpark for the Las Vegas Athletics. The implosion, which lasted 22 seconds, was celebrated with a spectacular show featuring drones and fireworks. The event was live-streamed and drew a significant number of spectators, despite road and sidewalk closures. Clark County issued an air quality dust advisory for the event. Bally’s Corp. Chairman Soo Kim commented on the significance of the demolition. A piece of the Tropicana's storied past will be preserved at the Neon Museum in downtown Las Vegas.
