Boston Celtics Ownership Group, Led by Wyc Grousbeck, Plans to Sell NBA Champions
Jul 1, 2024, 05:50 PM
The Boston Celtics' majority ownership group, led by Wyc Grousbeck, has announced plans to sell the franchise. The ownership group, Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C., purchased the team in 2002 for $360 million. The Celtics, recently crowned NBA champions for the 18th time, are currently valued at approximately $4.7 billion, with some estimates suggesting a sale price over $5 billion. The sale is expected to be one of the richest in NBA history. Wyc Grousbeck will remain as the team's governor until 2028, as the sale process will be conducted in phases, with the majority stake expected to be sold by early 2025. This development was initially reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and confirmed in a statement from the Celtics' ownership group.
