Beastie Boys Sue Brinker International in Manhattan Federal Court Over Unauthorized Use of 'Sabotage'
Jul 11, 2024, 06:52 PM
The Beastie Boys have filed a lawsuit against Brinker International Inc., the parent company of the Chili's restaurant chain, in Manhattan federal court. The lawsuit alleges that Brinker used the Beastie Boys' 1994 hit song 'Sabotage' in a 2022 ad and other promotional videos without obtaining the necessary rights to the sound recording or musical composition. The group claims the use of the song was unauthorized and against provisions in the will of late member Adam 'MCA' Yauch, which bars third-party use of their music for advertisements. Brinker International owns 30 Chili’s restaurants in New York.
