Mexico's Supreme Court to Review Judicial Overhaul Amid Strike Extended to October 11
Oct 3, 2024, 09:14 PM
Mexico's Supreme Court has agreed to consider a constitutional challenge to the judicial overhaul enacted last month. This decision follows petitions from judges, magistrates, and other judicial workers who have been on strike since August 19. The Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) will vote on whether to extend the strike, which could last until October 15. The judicial workers demand that the government comply with suspensions that halt the judicial reform. The Supreme Court's review will determine if the reform respects the autonomy of the judiciary. Celebrations erupted among judicial workers following the court's decision to review the overhaul. The CJF has extended the national strike until October 11. The group '32 circuitos unidos' has been vocal in their demands.
