San Francisco Mayor Orders Increased Scrutiny and Good Government Reforms Amid Nonprofit Scandals
Sep 3, 2024, 05:24 PM
San Francisco Mayor London Breed has ordered increased scrutiny of the city's contract work and grantees following numerous high-profile scandals involving corrupt nonprofits. The city spends over a billion dollars annually on contracts with nonprofit organizations, but millions have been misused. In response, Mayor Breed, along with City Attorney David Chiu and Supervisor Catherine Stefani, announced Good Government Reforms targeting the city's contracting process and partners. Residents have also reported being scammed by a corrupt manager and are now facing eviction from buildings slated for demolition. Notably, the nonprofit HomeRise has been highlighted in these concerns. The first major story broke in April 2019, involving Mohammed Nuru.
