Ukrainian Strikes on Belgorod Kill Five, Injure Eighteen, Including a Child
May 11, 2024, 11:45 PM
Recent Ukrainian military actions have intensified against Russian territories, resulting in significant casualties and damage. In a series of attacks, Ukrainian forces launched missiles and artillery strikes targeting the Russian city of Belgorod and other border provinces including Kursk and Donetsk, areas Russia claims to have annexed. These strikes have led to the deaths of at least five people and injuries to eighteen others, including a child. Additionally, a missile strike in Belgorod caused a residential building to partially collapse, trapping about 20 people under the rubble. Russian officials have reported that their air defense systems managed to down several incoming missiles, but debris from one downed missile contributed to the building collapse. This escalation follows Russia's ground invasion of Ukraine's Kharkiv region.
