Tesla Starts Trial Production at Shanghai Megapack Factory, First Outside U.S., 7 Months After Construction

Tesla Inc. has commenced trial production at its new Shanghai Megapack energy storage factory, marking a significant milestone just seven months after construction began in May. The factory, Tesla's first energy storage facility outside the United States, successfully passed its completion inspection on December 27. Mass production of the Megapack energy-storage batteries is expected to start in early 2025. The project represents Tesla's commitment to expanding its operations in China, with the new factory covering an area of approximately 200,000 square meters and representing a total investment of around 1.45 billion yuan (about 201.7 million U.S. dollars).
