Biden Administration Expands TPS and Deportation Protections to 309,000 Haitians for 18 Months
Jun 28, 2024, 02:06 PM
The Biden administration has announced an expansion of deportation protections and work permits to over 300,000 Haitians currently in the United States. This move, made by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, includes the extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for another 18 months. Currently, approximately 214,000 Haitians are receiving TPS benefits. Following Friday's announcement, the new provisions aim to address the ongoing security and humanitarian crises in Haiti, providing relief and employment authorization to the affected individuals. Rep. Espaillat expressed appreciation for this critical step.
