Apple Faces EU Warning to Open iPhone OS, Risks 10% Turnover Fine in Six Months
Sep 19, 2024, 09:46 AM
Apple Inc. is set to receive a formal warning from the European Union to open up its iPhone operating system to rival technologies or face significant fines. This directive is part of the EU's new Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to ensure interoperability between Apple's iOS and other technologies. The EU's antitrust regulators have launched proceedings to enforce compliance, specifying that Apple must provide free and effective interoperability with hardware and software features controlled by its operating systems, iOS and iPadOS. If Apple fails to comply within six months, it risks fines of up to 10% of its global annual turnover.
