Macron Secures €2.7 Billion Rafale Jet Deal with Serbia and Dassault Aviation
Aug 29, 2024, 06:32 PM
French President Emmanuel Macron has successfully negotiated a deal for the sale of 12 Rafale fighter jets to Serbia, during his visit to Belgrade. The agreement, signed by Serbia’s Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and Dassault CEO Eric Trappier, is valued at €2.7 billion, or billions of dollars. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the purchase, which marks a significant shift in Serbia's defense procurement strategy, traditionally reliant on Russian military equipment. The deal includes accompanying equipment and services, and payments will be made in tranches of €420 million in 2024 and 2025. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen Serbia's ties with the European Union and Western allies.
