Greece to Supply Ukraine With 24 RIM-7 Sea Sparrow Missiles
Dec 28, 2024, 04:04 PM
Greece has agreed to provide Ukraine with 24 RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missiles to bolster its defense against ongoing threats. These missiles, sourced from Greece's naval and air force stockpiles, have been deemed unnecessary for operational use by Greek military standards. The Sea Sparrow, a U.S.-made short-range anti-aircraft missile, can be launched from the sea or ground to intercept cruise missiles or aircraft. Ukraine already possesses the necessary launchers to deploy these missiles. This transfer is part of Greece's broader military aid to Ukraine, which includes artillery shells, weaponry, and ammunition. Despite the aid, Greece's defense capabilities in the Aegean Sea will not be compromised. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has reiterated Greece's unwavering support for Ukraine during a recent European summit.
