Pelosi, 84, Undergoes Hip Surgery After Fall at WWII Event in Luxembourg
Dec 14, 2024, 06:20 PM
Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, underwent successful hip replacement surgery after fracturing her hip during a fall in Luxembourg on Friday. Pelosi, serving as Speaker Emerita, was attending a congressional delegation marking the 80th anniversary of World War II's Battle of the Bulge when she tripped down marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace. She was initially hospitalized at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg and later transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a U.S. military hospital in Germany, where she underwent surgery on Saturday morning. Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, stated that Pelosi is "well on the mend" following the procedure. Pelosi expressed gratitude to the medical staff at both facilities for their excellent care and conveyed her thanks and praise to U.S. veterans and the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their role in bringing peace to Europe. She noted that her Uncle Johnny fought in World War II.
