Microsoft Reports Strong Q4 Earnings but Shares Fall Over 7% on Cloud Revenue Miss
Jul 30, 2024, 08:07 PM
Microsoft reported its Q4 2024 earnings, showing a revenue increase of 15% year-over-year to $64.7 billion, surpassing expectations of $64.52 billion. The company's earnings per share (EPS) were $2.95, slightly above the expected $2.94. Despite these positive results, Microsoft shares fell over 7% in after-hours trading. The decline was driven by disappointing cloud revenue, which came in at $36.8 billion, missing the estimate of $36.84 billion. Azure growth also decelerated to 29%, below the anticipated 30-31%. Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud revenue rose 19% to $28.52 billion, but still fell short of the $28.72 billion estimate. Net income for the quarter was $22 billion, and operating income was $27.9 billion. The market reaction reflects concerns over the company's cloud performance, despite strong overall financial results. Microsoft’s fiscal year revenue totaled $245.1 billion, up 16% year-over-year.
