Labour's Keir Starmer to Introduce Age Limit for Peers and Abolish Hereditary Roles in House of Lords Reform
Jun 8, 2024, 01:16 PM
The Labour Party has announced plans to introduce an age limit for serving peers as part of a two-phased approach to reforming the House of Lords. Under the new policy, peers will be required to retire at the age of 80 or at the end of the parliament in which they reach that age. Additionally, new hereditary roles will be abolished. This initiative is led by Keir Starmer and represents a shift from Labour's previous pledge to completely abolish the House of Lords.
