Karnataka to Appeal Against Cauvery Water Release Order, Will Release 8000 Cusecs Daily
Jul 14, 2024, 05:05 AM
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the state will appeal against the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's (CWRC) directive to release 1 TMC of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu daily until the end of the month. An emergency meeting of the Water Resources Department was called, attended by Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and other senior officials. The Karnataka government has decided to release only 8000 cusecs of water daily instead of the 1 TMC mandated by the CWRC, citing a 30% water shortage. An all-party meeting was held on July 14 at Vidhana Soudha to discuss the issue, with leaders from various political parties agreeing on the decision to appeal to the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). The next steps will be decided after the appeal is submitted.
