The Internet Archive experienced a significant security breach, compromising 31,081,179 user records, including email addresses, screen names, and bcrypt password hashes. Visitors to the site encountered a hacker's JavaScript alert announcing the 'catastrophic security breach.' Following the breach, a DDoS attack took the site offline on Wednesday, displaying a 'temporarily offline' notice. Notably, 54% of the compromised accounts were already listed on Have I Been Pwned.
