Six Monkeys Still Loose After Escape from Yemassee, South Carolina Lab
Nov 18, 2024, 03:32 PM
Nearly all of the rhesus macaque monkeys that escaped from a South Carolina lab have been recovered. As of Sunday evening, 37 of the 43 monkeys have been captured, leaving six still on the loose. The monkeys escaped from a compound in Yemassee that breeds primates for medical research on November 6. Authorities announced the recapture of two more monkeys on Sunday. Concerns have been raised about potential disease risks posed by the escaped monkeys, contrary to claims by the involved company.
