Zelensky Seeks NATO Support in Berlin, Merz Offers Conditional Missile Supply with Ultimatum
Oct 14, 2024, 06:10 AM
During a recent meeting in Berlin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky put forward demands to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, seeking permission to strike deep into Russia and approval for accelerated admission to NATO. Zelensky has been touring Europe to propose a 'victory plan' and seek urgent support in the fight against Russia. However, Scholz disagrees with Zelensky's calls for support and has no intention of handing over heavy equipment to Ukraine. Meanwhile, German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz has expressed readiness to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles under specific conditions. Merz insists that before delivery, Russia must be given an ultimatum to cease attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. If Russia does not comply, Merz supports lifting restrictions on Ukraine's long-range strikes against Russia and delivering the Taurus missiles.
