Brazilian Man Arrested on Christmas Day for Pointing Green Laser at Airplanes Near Miami International Airport
Dec 28, 2024, 09:28 PM
Francisco Teixeira, a 45-year-old Brazilian man, was arrested in Miami on Christmas Day for allegedly pointing a green laser at two passenger airplanes near Miami International Airport. The incident was reported by an American Airlines pilot who observed the laser being directed at his aircraft and others in the vicinity. Police traced the laser back to the La Quinta Inn, where Teixeira was staying, and he was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified of the incident, which is considered a federal offense. Teixeira faced a judge, who set his bond at $1,500, and he was ordered to dispose of any laser devices in his possession. No injuries or damages were reported, but the potential danger to flight safety was emphasized by authorities.
