France Says Netanyahu Has Immunity as G7 Addresses ICC Arrest Warrant
Nov 27, 2024, 10:00 AM
The Group of Seven (G7) nations are seeking a unified position regarding the International Criminal Court's (ICC) recent arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu reportedly expressed his anger to French President Emmanuel Macron over the phone, urging France not to enforce the arrest warrant. Macron responded that France will respect international law. France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that Netanyahu may have immunity under the Rome Statute since Israel is not a signatory to the ICC. Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon and Michel Barnier affirmed that France would respect its international obligations. Other G7 countries have indicated they will fulfill their international obligations regarding the warrant.
