Ford Shifts from EVs to Heavy-Duty Trucks with $3 Billion Investment in Ontario by 2026

Ford Motor Company has announced a significant shift in its production strategy, pivoting from electric vehicle (EV) plans to focus on heavy-duty trucks at its Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada. The automaker plans to invest approximately $3 billion to expand the production of its highly profitable Super Duty F-series pickup trucks. This move is expected to secure about 70 full-time jobs and additional overtime at U.S. component plants, while also bringing back Unifor-represented employees at the Oakville facility one year earlier than previously planned. The production expansion, which will begin in 2026, is driven by surging demand from Ford Pro customers. Additionally, Ford will add 2,000 workers across three plants to support the increased truck production. The company also plans to incorporate multi-energy technology in future production.
