El Salvador Under Bukele Achieves Near-Zero Homicide Rate, 88% Feel Safe
Sep 24, 2024, 02:10 PM
El Salvador, under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, has achieved a significant reduction in its homicide rate, approaching zero per 100,000 inhabitants. This remarkable improvement has positioned El Salvador as one of the safest countries in the world, surpassing nations such as Switzerland, Iceland, and Luxembourg by one percentage point. Notably, 88% of Salvadorans now feel safe walking alone at night in the city. This marks the first time El Salvador has ranked among the safest countries globally and the safest in the Western Hemisphere, according to a Gallup poll.
