Derrick Henry Sets Franchise TD Record, Earns $500K Bonus on 31st Birthday
Jan 5, 2025, 12:32 AM
On his 31st birthday, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry delivered a record-breaking performance in the team's Week 18 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Henry rushed for 138 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns, including a 43-yard run, bringing his season total to a franchise-record 16 rushing touchdowns. His 15th rushing touchdown surpassed Jamal Lewis's 2003 record for the most single-season rushing touchdowns in Ravens history. Henry also reached 1,921 rushing yards for the season, the most ever by a player aged 30 or older, surpassing Tiki Barber's 1,860 yards in 2005, and ranking as the 11th highest single-season total in NFL history. He became the first player in NFL history with multiple seasons of at least 1,800 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Henry is the fifth player ever to record multiple seasons with over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 15 rushing touchdowns, joining Terrell Davis, Emmitt Smith, Priest Holmes, and Larry Johnson. Additionally, Henry earned a $500,000 contract incentive by reaching 15 total touchdowns for the season. With his second touchdown of the game, Henry recorded his 22nd career game with at least 100 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, passing Emmitt Smith for the third-most such games in NFL history, behind only Jim Brown and LaDainian Tomlinson. His performance contributed to the Ravens clinching the AFC North title.
