Justice Moraes Frees Daniel Silveira Under Conditions Including Ankle Monitor, No Contact With Bolsonaro
Dec 20, 2024, 01:16 PM
Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has granted conditional release to former congressman Daniel Silveira, following a favorable recommendation from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR). Silveira, who was sentenced in 2022 to eight years and nine months in prison for threats and incitement to violence against Supreme Court ministers, has been imprisoned since February 2021. Under the terms of his release, he must wear an electronic ankle monitor and is prohibited from using social media and contacting certain individuals, including former President Jair Bolsonaro and Colonel Mauro Cid. The PGR argued that Silveira had served more than one-third of his sentence and presented no ongoing risk.
