Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman Retires After TKO Loss to Eryk Anders
Jan 17, 2025, 07:38 PM
Chris Weidman, the former UFC middleweight champion, has announced his retirement from the UFC during the weigh-in show for UFC 311. Weidman, aged 40, made the announcement after his most recent fight at UFC 310 in December, where he was defeated by TKO by Eryk Anders. Throughout his career, Weidman achieved a record of 16-8, including a 12-8 record in the UFC, and a notable victory over Anderson Silva to claim the middleweight title at UFC 162 in 2013. He defended the belt three times against Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, and Kelvin Gastelum before losing it to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in 2015. Weidman's career was marked by adversity, including 30 surgeries, and a severe leg injury in April 2021 against Uriah Hall. Weidman expressed gratitude towards the UFC and its staff for the opportunities provided over his 14-year career. While he is retiring from the UFC, Weidman hinted at being open to big opportunities outside the promotion, suggesting he might not be completely done with fighting.
