China Completes 3,046 km Green Barrier to Combat Desertification in Taklimakan
Nov 28, 2024, 04:15 AM
China has completed a monumental environmental project by encircling the Taklimakan Desert, known as the 'Sea of Death,' with a 3,046-kilometer green barrier. This initiative, aimed at combating desertification, marks the final kilometer of the barrier, which has been in the works for years. The project involved planting drought-resistant species around the desert, covering an area of 337,000 square kilometers, making it the world's second-largest drifting desert. The completion of this barrier is part of China's broader effort to tackle desertification in the northwest, north, and northeast regions of the country, with 2,761 km already completed and only 285 km remaining.
