Trump Names Free Speech Advocate Brendan Carr as Permanent FCC Chairman
Nov 18, 2024, 12:50 AM
President-elect Donald Trump announced that FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr will serve as the permanent Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Carr, who has served on the FCC since 2017, is recognized as a 'warrior for free speech' and a champion for rural America. His current term runs through 2029, allowing him to assume control immediately upon Trump's inauguration. Carr has been an advocate for deregulation, broadband expansion, and has voiced support for companies such as SpaceX's Starlink. He has also called for a ban on TikTok due to national security concerns. Carr contributed to the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, detailing his plans for the agency. Upon accepting the appointment, Carr stated, 'Thank you, President Trump! I am humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the FCC. Now we get to work.'
