Germany's AfD Wins Brandenburg State Election, Gains 32% Youth Support
Sep 22, 2024, 06:48 PM
Earlier this month, Alternative for Germany (AfD) became the first far-right political party to win a state election in Brandenburg, Germany since World War II. The AfD has gained significant traction among young voters, securing 32% of the vote among 16-24 year olds in the Brandenburg election. Despite this surge in popularity among the youth, a large majority of Germans (79%) hold a negative opinion of the party, with only 19% viewing it favorably. The older generation in Germany continues to support the SPD, while younger voters aged 16-45 are increasingly leaning towards the AfD.
