In a statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama, it was noted, "Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration." This marks the second time in two weeks that she will miss a gathering of former U.S. leaders and their spouses, following her absence from former President Jimmy Carter's funeral last week, where she would have been assigned to sit next to Trump. No reason was provided for her absence. Former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush are expected to attend the inauguration.
